August 06 - Shock and Awe Ride (Annual Stan Stagg Mystery Ride)

The ride was originally scheduled a few weeks back but Mother Nature ruined that day for us.  After juggling personal schedules, we went for it on Sat (8/6).  The weather definitely cooperated this time as it was excellent!

"New Guy Ed" met me at the Shoey Sheetz on his son's Daytona 600 (beautiful in platinum!).

We met the rest of the crew at the Morgantown Micky D's.  There was Stan on his new leftover '04 ST, Joe on his Yamaha, Russ on a ST1100, Dave on a Concours.  Terry and his buddy Mike came on dual sport machinery - Terry on his KTM 950 and Mike on a Suzuki DR650.  Quite a varied collection of bikes!  and a great bunch of guys!

Before even leaving the parking lot, we were treated to what must have been a meeting of Italian sports cars.  There were several beautiful cars pulling in and parking under the shade at the rear of the lot.  We being an inquisitive bunch, had to check it out.

After a bit, we mounted up and started on the "tour".  We started down Rt 10 and before long, we were amazed as an "18 wheeler" got his trailer hung up trying to make a turn onto a country road that wasn't very wide.  After the trailer was off Rt 10 (but stuck on the side road) we moved on.

Stan took us on many great roads in and around Chester County as we worked our way to Rt 82 in Kennett Square.  Then it was 82 South into Northern Delaware along the Brandywine Creek.  This area was flooded several years ago (as we noted during our Crab Run ride last year).  Stan stopped for a break at a location that was devastated by the flooding.  There were brick buildings that looked originally like stable.  The buildings were refurbished to what looked like it was to be a collection of artisan shops - until they were flooded.

The shops are deserted and not barricaded at all.  We walked around the buildings finding it hard to believe that everyone just walked away from it all.  It all was such a shame to see what must have been someone's dream to vanish like this.

We continued from the stop into and back out of Delaware and made our way westbound.  Next was a lunch stop at a Mexican Taco Shop in Cochranville.  Great food and very reasonably priced.  While at lunch, Dave told us of the powers of his (at home) Hyabusa with a nitrous and air shifter kit.  Amazing!

Of course, Stan told us to save room for desert.  Yes, this means we're headed to Lapp's Dairy Farm for ice cream - perfect!

After ice cream we departed and made our ways home.

It was a great day and Stan didn't let us down with his great choices of roads!  I can't wait until next year.

Side note - Terry loves to take pictures - especially while riding.  Check his pictures out at
